The Insub Meta Orchestra

8:30 PM The Insub Meta Orchestra (concert)

The Insub Meta orchestra (IMO) is a large ensemble gathered around the experimental and electroacoustic practice. It was founded in 2010 by the Cyril Bondi and d’incise duo. It consists of about fifty permanent members that form the thirty international musicians present at each concert. Born from questionings on improvisation in a large group, the IMO built with time a strong collective and typical background where the individual gesture get lost in the production of global sonic states. Thus subtle matters emerge and interact with silence. The notions of improvisation or composition become confused in a constant research of a specific development in the context of this orchestra. Its axes are the place of silence, an electroacoustic and extensive listening, the work on durations, the mimetism, low volumes, non-hiérarchical relations, the circulation of informations.

Yes Deer

9:00 PM Yes Deer (concert)

YES DEER makes music through physical and intellectual rituals. “We are, as a band, engaged in the friction between intellect and libido, pre and post, and collectivism and individualism. Our sound can be described as a massive cacophony of writhing textures, manic hammering and distorted screeching, or as the sound of enthusiastic despair.” YES DEER was formed in 2011 by Sweden-based saxophonist Signe Dahlgreen, Norwegian guitarist Karl Bjorå and Danish drummer Anders Vestergaard. Signe Dahlgreen was born in Gammel Lejre in 1987 but moved to Sweden in 2010 and is currently residing in Gothenburg. Signe is a heavy solo perfomer. Karl Bjorå was born in a small town Evje in 1991 and is currently living in Oslo. Karl has placed himself as a unique voice on the guitar. Anders Vestergaard was born in Aarhus in 1989 and is currently residing in Copenhagen. Anders is a highly active drummer on the Danish and European underground scene. Anders is also working in a solo setting with drums and feedback electronics.

Chemia miłości

9:00 PM Chemia miłości (concert)

CHEMISTRY OF LOVE is a series of six latest compositions by Marzena Majcher. The inspiration for creating music were formulas of the chemical substances, responsible for the state of falling in love. These substances - phenylethylamine, dopamine and others - function as neurotransmitters and are responsible for feeling happiness. When we fall in love, brain gets a huge dose of these. The composition is a musical experiment involving transformation of the formulas into the language of music. In creating the composition, it was important to find harmony and melody in the structures of these formulas. During the concert, you will also hear other compositions by Marzena Majcher, among others pieces: Photon energy, Event horizon, Radiation.

10:00 PM Metroscan (concert)

Metroscan

10:00 PM METROSCAN (concert)

METROSCAN is a futuristic audiovisual work dealing with the subject of the megapolis, its informational speed, multipolarity and other post-urbanist vectors. The title “Metroscan” and the idea behind it are based on the multifaceted origin of the word “metro” (in Ancient Greek metron stands for measure). It is connected to metropolis, concepts of measuring, movement and transportation. All of those concepts are “scanned” into highly concentrated sounds and visuals - a certain compressed informational avalanche of a large city, which through the means of digital technologies is melted into a purified, fluctuating aesthetic experience. The music of this piece uses a very broad scale of frequencies and often balances between experimental and pulsating electronic music. The visuals are based on the conversion of the data of current sound into an image that is restored in real time. It is characteristic of very fast change of elements, lush images and unpredictability.

9:00 PM Seabuckthorn (concert)

“A house with too much fire” is UK guitarist Andy Cartwright’s 9th release under the alias Seabuckthorn. Heavily influenced by mountain terrain after relocating to the Southern Alps, Andy has experimented further with raw guitar sounds in bowing, fingerpicking and the use of slides, bringing a wider channelling of atmospherics and textures. Recorded in late 2017 and with the wood burner always in use, most song parts were captured in one take providing a spontaneous feel, focusing on loose, minimal improvisations which are apparent somewhat in Seabuckthorn’s live performances. With the new addition of banjo, clarinet and synthesiser to occasionally accompany the guitars, this release wonderfully reflects the surroundings in which it was created. This is the 4th release with Parisian based record label Bookmaker Records and first collaborative release with La Cordillère.

All physical phenomena are transformations. As a result, the components of a physical object change. An example of such change is a phenomenon called solidification. Power and Time are required for the phenomena to occur. Multiple actions constitute power while time is a relative notion.

Using modern plugins, real sounds of nature and looped vocals Di.Aria creates a language she uses to speak to the audience about life and its beauty as well as its darkest corners. Christopher Chaplin is a British composer and experimental music artist. He studied piano in Switzerland before moving to London in the early eighties. The basis of their video art are captured film sequences that get disassembled and newly-arranged in the process of live performances. Luma.Launisch also presented video installations at the Benaki Museum Athens, the Photobiennale Thessaloniki, the exhibition Sound:Frame at Vienna’s Künstlerhaus and MAK, Media Art Lab Moscow, the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York amongst others.

YEAH YOU

10:00 PM YEAH YOU (concert)

Yeah You is Elvin Brandhi and MYKL JAXN. The project grew from a desire to make something during every spare moment. Using compact recording gear to turn the usual banal everyday family drives into spontaneous recording sessions in the car. JAXN’s distorted, alluringly jarred synthesisation’s acting as a jagged platform for Brandhi to writhe improvised stream of consciousness lyrical trips. In September 2017 they released “KRUTCH”, their latest and second LP on UK/Berlin imprint Slip, which is another burst of poisonous, weaponised pop, spat out on the roam captures the exhilaration of driving with your eyes closed. Recorded in a black Renault Clio in Holland and Germany, and at Aurora, Budapest throughout early 2017, “KRUTCH” is the duo at a freshly terrifying apex, filtering the desperation of black metal through an unerring pop nous. Father/daughter dada-leaning dyad, whose improvised musical and geographical excursions will leave your head spinning like a well rubbered doughnut in a car park.

At the moment he is completely involved with free improvisation. He mostly plays the piano and prepared piano, instruments of his own design, and instruments which are ruined or broken. In music he enjoys playfulness of everything that is indeterminate and takes all of the possible advantage of it, producing marvels of improvisational control over whatever material in hands.

Roger Turner grew up amongst the Canterbury musical life of the 1960s with a strong broad jazz root. His first formal performance in improvisation was in duo with Chris Biscoe in Brighton in 1966. He moved to London in 1968 and worked with the Ghanian drum ensemble Mask and toured with the experimental and innovative Ritual Theatre. Since 1974 work was primarily concentrated on opening the way to a more personal percussion language. Solo work, work with electro-acoustic ensembles & open--form song, extensive work with dance and visual artists, plus specific jazz-based ensembles have brought collaborations with the most interesting european and international musicians and performers.

There are composites that bear the imprint of singularity and thus arouse our interest. “Never has a living ear perceived such a sound that no creature born from a womb (oder einfach of a woman) could ever resist. Regardless of any principle of style only the law of music suffices the valiant, who is bound to this sole aim: to forge ties in order to unravel the knot.” The quote is not a remark on this trio but the introduction to a recipe for a bread cake from 1820, written by the duke's personal cook F.G. Zenker in Austria.

Rudi Mahall (bass clarinet/clarinet) was born in Nürnberg in 1966. He is a contemporary jazz bass clarinetist.
Florian Stoffner (guitar) was born in 1975. He is an improvising musician and guitarist.
Paul Lovens (drums) was born in Aachen in 1949. He plays drums, percussion, singing saw, and cymbals
